The principal argument for defunding police departments is so that more can be spent on education and mental health services, but in actuality there is great deal spent already, particularly on Education and Social Welfare programs. Generally, the rule is that there are 3-3.5 sworn and unsworn officers per 1,000 residents, and that there are roughly 41.3 crimes per 1,000 people, in fact the US is actually not so bad in that department considering Nordic countries and Great Britain are over 100 crimes per 1,000 residents. So throwing more $$$ at education, doesn't seem to be the answer. I agree that there is an issue within education where many kids are being overlooked, but I believe the issue is within education itself and the priorities.
